The French blogosphere is at it again and after we had the chance to see a Lumia 920 hands-on video previously shared by a French tech blog, the guys over at Test Mobile.fr have recently visited Finland and were able to take the Lumia 920 “out for a walk”.

The much awaited Android 4.1 Jelly Bean upgrade for Samsung Galaxy S3 owners has started to arrive.
In the last few days a number of UK mobile operators have started rolling out the software update to Galaxy S3 smartphones. If you haven’t got the update yet, keep checking for it as the roll out process is completed.

Samsung Galaxy S3 handsets on O2 and Vodafone are now getting updated to Android Jelly Bean still no love for SIM-free devices though.

Vodafone said: “Great news, the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update will be made available for Samsung Galaxy S3 handsets purchased from Vodafone on Monday.”

Vodafone and O2-branded Samsung Galaxy S3 handsets will receive Android Jelly Bean today, ahead of unlocked SIM-free variants.

The news was confirmed by The Inquirer, which reports the rollout of Android 4.1 (AKA Jelly Bean) has begun and will be available across all networks over the coming weeks, pending software testing and approvals.

O2 and Vodafone have now both confirmed that their Android 4.1 updates will be going live today.

The rollout will be staggered, however, so some users on Vodafone might not get the OTA update today. Vodafone says all Galaxy S3 handsets on its network should have the update within a couple of days though.

O2 confirmed that Jelly Bean is now available for download on all Galaxy S3 handsets locked to its network via its official forum.

Although a rollout to unlocked devices has already started in Poland, Samsung has yet to confirm when it will be rolling out Android Jelly Bean to unlocked Galaxy S3 handsets in Western Europe. In light of today’s news, we hope it’s sooner rather than later.

Are you a proud owner of the Samsung Galaxy S3? If so, then you either reside in Europe or South Korea and you’re already rocking Jelly Bean,or you eagerly wait for Samsung to eventually roll-out this highly anticipated update on its flagship phone, as phase 2 is commencing. Well, you could also run on a custom ROM but I digress.

Samsung Galaxy S3 at Verizon: New Update Brings Small Fixes, Not Jelly Bean.

The point is, in case you happen to own Verizon’s Samsung Galaxy S3 then you should find out that the carrier has just rolled-out a new build, and although it’s still not Android 4.1, bug fixes are always welcomed. More details below.

Alright ladies and gents, the latest released build (VRALHE) is currently available for download over-the-air so if you haven’t received it on your Verizon SGS3 just yet, sit tight and it’ll eventually arrive.

As to what it will bring new to the table, version VRALHE brings enchantments to the Zooming Feature used when browsing the web, reading emails and so on, Google Play will be more stable, and once you apply this new build, your device will also reset less often, which is always good.

The file is about 62 MB in size so don’t expect any miracles, but any improvement is welcomed and waiting for the big Jelly Bean release while being able to use a less buggy operating system is better than nothing.

The long drawn out process of updating Android hardware to later versions of the operating system looks set to continue with less than two percent of hardware currently using Android 4.1. The updating of the Samsung Galaxy S3 has seen many false starts but it is now thought the Jelly Bean update will hit most regions this month.

Owners of the Samsung Galaxy S3 have been waiting a while now for their handsets to be updated, and it seemed the update had begun rolling out last month as owners in Poland began to see the new software. Now as the Android Police are reporting owners of the handset in Sweden have begun receiving it via KIES.

This is the official version of the software with the build being called 4.1.1 I9300XXDLIH, and seems to be destined for unlocked versions of the Galaxy S3. Hopefully any bugs that appeared with the software in Poland have been fixed, and should mean other European countries could also be about to get the software as well.

Meanwhile Sammobile are reporting that the Jelly Bean update should reach most countries by the end of this month, and the company also took to its Facebook page in the UK to reveal the Galaxy S3 should be available by the end of October.

It is not known if this stage of the rollout will include users in the US that have been left frustrated waiting for Android Jelly Bean to arrive. Considering this is the flagship smartphone from Samsung you would have thought the company would have upgraded the software by now.

The US release of Jelly Bean for the Galaxy S3 should be close though, as earlier this month a version for US carrier Sprint leaked, but it always seems that Samsung provides its US customers with software updates last.

The Samsung Galaxy S 3 Mini was announced last week and is now available to pre-order in the UK from Phones4U.
The smartphone is available on a wide range of operators and a choice of different tariffs. To pickup the Galaxy S3 Mini free you’ll be looking at a contract costing around 26 a month , which isn’t as cheap as 3G might have expected.

A number of online retailers have added the smartphone to their site including “Unlock Mobiles” who are offering the S3 Mini sim-free for just under 300. Significantly, the smartphone is listed as launch on November 2nd which isn’t far away at all !

The Samsung Galaxy SIII Mini is a more compact version of Samsung’s flagship smartphone which also comes with a slightly lower spec. However, you still get a 4 inch Super AMOLED touch-screen (800*480 pixels) , a dual-core 1GHz processor and a 5 mega-pixel camera.

Android Jelly Bean comes pre-loaded on the S3 Mini which is the latest version of Google’s operating system. On-board memory weighs in at 8GB, although a 16GB version will also be available. 3G hope to review the Galaxy SIII Mini very soon and we’re excited to get our hands on the smartphone.

The S3 Minis 4-inch Super AMOLED screen is 800 x 480 rather than HD, its camera is 5MP rather than 8MP and there’s a 1GHz dual-core processor rather than the full-fat S3′s quad-core 1.4GHz CPU. It comes with 8GB or 16GB of storage plus a microSD supporting up to 32GB extra, which the S3 senior offers 16GB, 32GB and soon 64GB of built-in space with the option to add an extra 64GB via a card. There’s the same amount of RAM though: 1GB!

On the design front, it’s a little thicker than the S3 at 9.9mm deep, although it weighs a little less at 111.5g. The battery is 1,500mAh rather than 2,100mAh.

No doubt this drop in power will disappoint some potential customers, but the S3 Mini looks like a solid phone in its own right. There’s no word on the price or release date as yet, but we’d bet big that it’ll be in the shops before Christmas and at a significantly cheaper price than the non-Mini Galaxy S3.

Some people would say that you can not compare a smartphone-tablet hybrid (the Galaxy Note 2) with a smartphone (the iPhone 5) the iPhone vs Samsung Galaxy Note 2 battle should be interesting, since both devices are running the latest versions of the software platforms underpinning them, and both are hig-end terminals.

We take a look at the forthcoming Galaxy Note 2 to see how it compares with Apple’s iPhone 5.

FORM

iPhone 5 – 123.8×58.6×7.6mm, 112g

Samsung Galaxy Note 2 – 151.1×80.5×9.4mm, 180g

The Samsung Galaxy Note 2 follows the company’s Galaxy S3 flagship and the larger Note 10.1 tablet with Samsungs carefully tailored new style.

The aesthetic includes a metallic surround on the outer edge, a smooth back panel and neatly contoured corners.

Overall however, it is very similar to its predecessor, the original Galaxy Note, though it is a bit bigger and slightly curvier. The bezel around the screen is thinner than before and the solid home button is more rounded. Despite the use of Android 4.1 Jelly Bean the handset still sports capacitive controls on either side of the home button.

The Note 2 is pleasing to the eye, but less so to the hand as, like Samsung’s other recent devices the plastic used has a tacky feeling to it.

Being bigger than the original Galaxy Note, the Note 2 is also going to be more difficult to handle, especially for users with smaller hands. There is also the issue of holding such a large phone to your ear and whether or not this makes you feel daft. If not, more power to you, but otherwise there’s always hands-free kits.

The iPhone 5 is similarly not that much of a re-invention from Apple’s existing catalogue. It’s a bit bigger lengthways to make room for the enlarged 4-inch display and instead of a glass back panel with an aluminium surround you’ve got a complete aluminium unibody.

The charging port is now smaller to work with Apple’s newly designed “Lightning” charging and data cable and the 3.5mm audio jack has been moved from the top panel to the bottom.

It’s worth pointing out that Apple is releasing an adaptor for the Lightning cable which will convert it to Micro USB, although according to reports it will only work as a charger in this mode rather than for transferring data.

In terms of build quality Apple has delivered its usual high standard. The Galaxy Note 2 is not a flimsy device at all but it doesn’t have the same reassuring feel, although it is more visually interesting.

This one’s a draw.

Winner – Draw

STORAGE

Both handsets have a full set of three options for internal storage: 16GB, 32GB and 64GB. While the iPhone 5 sticks to Apple’s habit of not including Micro SD card support, the Galaxy Note 2 does have a card slot and supports both Micro SD and Micro SDHC, up to 32GB and 64GB respectively.

The Galaxy Note 2 takes the win here easily.

Winner – Samsung Galaxy Note 2

DISPLAY

Samsung’s Galaxy Note 2 is larger than its predecessor with a 5.55-inch Super AMOLED display at 1280×720 pixels, which gives a pixel density of 267 pixels-per-inch (ppi).

While it’s not quite up there with Apple’s Retina display in terms of pixel density it’s still extremely high for a touchscreen of this size and delivers fantastic visual quality. The picture is sharp and colours are vivid. It’s also reinforced with Gorilla Glass 2.

Apple has expanded the iPhone’s display from 3.5-inches to an even 4-inches. The scale is certainly nicer to look at for things like web browsing and films, though not as satisfyingly vast as the Note 2 swathe of glass.

But, on the plus side it hasn’t lost any of its ease-of-use and thumbing your way round the screen with one hand is still a breeze.

In terms of picture quality, Apple has avoided rocking the boat by delivering a similarly high pixel density to the previous, smaller-screened iPhone models.

It’s still an IPS LCD Retina display and has a higher resolution than its predecessors at 1136×640 pixels, giving a pixel density of 326ppi (slightly lower than the previous 330ppi).

Both displays have 16:9 widescreen aspect ratios in landscape orientation.

The question here is whether you want to trade-off some visual clarity for a larger screen and that’s a very personal choice. Both are delivering premium-level display quality so weâ’re calling it a draw.

Winner – Draw

OPERATING SYSTEM

Samsung’s Galaxy Note 2 runs the latest version of Android, version 4.1 Jelly Bean, with the company’s TouchWiz interface on top and a number of tweaks specially designed for the included S-Pen stylus.

Overall performance seems to have benefited from Google’s Butter UI tweaks and everything operates very smoothly indeed, Samsung has taken advantage of this improved capability to add some more processor intensive visual tweaks to the interface, so now there are a number of flashy carousel modes for you to view your pictures and video, and video thumbnails will actually play in preview mode.

Jelly Bean should also offer more reliability than previous builds and the use of “swipe-to-close” UI features is now more prevalent throughout the interface.

It includes Google’s new “Google Now” service, which is an interesting and useful medley of location-based services, notifications, reminders and an improved Google Voice.

The whole package has been oddly described as like having a personal assistant who’s also a stalker, for example, it’ll send you useful stuff sometimes before you’ve even arrived at a particular location.

The Google Voice component is also much more rewarding to use than Apple’s Siri.

An interesting new feature, added by Samsung, is the ability to use written S-Pen input for searches. You can, for example, write search terms for a location and the weather and it’ll conduct a Google search before presenting you with the results.

Apple’s new iOS 6 is a much less impressive update. There are a few additions but it’s not a landmark change as some previous builds have been and as Jelly Bean for Android certainly is.

Apple is introducing its new navigation suite, which no longer relies on Google and uses its own 3D mapping technology. This provides voice-guided turn-by-turn navigation and cinematic “Flyover” modes, as well as over 100 million points of interest (POIs).

Siri has been tweaked and can now understand more phrases and questions. Now when searching for a place to eat it’ll be better able to factor in the cuisine, the number of people and the time of day.

Apple has specifically given it a crash course in film trivia so it’ll be better able to answer your cinema-based queries.

Photostreaming is now more, well, streamlined, and Twitter integration has been deepened, it’s also now joined by Facebook integration and you can update your statuses with notifications directly from the notifications screen, or you can use Siri to dictate one.

Overall we think iOS 6 is quite a lacklustre version of the platform, where Jelly Bean is a strong and vibrant contribution from Google.

Winner – Samsung Galaxy Note 2

PROCESSOR

The Galaxy Note 2 uses Samsung’s Exynos 4412 quad core chip clocked at 1.6GHz and based on ARM’s Cortex-A9 architecture.

This runs with 32 nanometre (nm) semiconductor technology, 2GB of dual-channel RAM and a Mali-400MP graphics processing unit.

To say performance is fast would be an understatement and this setup offers better power efficiency than Nvidia’s competing Tegra 3 quad.

The jury is still out on the specifics of Apple’s new A6 chip found inside the iPhone 5.

What Apple has said is that it’s twice as fast as the previous A5X chip, which was Cortex-A9 based with 45nm tech and 1GB of dual-channel RAM.

Apple also says the GPU is twice as fast as the earlier quad core PowerVR SGX543MP4 found on the A5X.

The new chip appears to still be a dual core clocked at around 1GHz, but current speculation says the A6 could be based on next-gen Cortex-A15 architecture, with 32nm tech.

An opposing theory says it could be using an overclocked Cortex-A9 setup on 32nm tech instead.

Obviously this is going to be pretty quick either way, but if it is A15 based then it’s true next-gen tech and will be much faster than anything else on the market both now and going forward.

Winner – iPhone 5

FINAL THOUGHTS

In our view the Galaxy Note 2 is the winning model here. The iPhone5 is yet again another incremental update and displays a lack of imagination on Apple’s part, primarily on the operating system front which is really Apple’s bread and butter.

Meanwhile, Samsung has clearly been listening to fans of the Galaxy Note to establish what they loved and what they thought needed changing.

While it remains to be seen whether or not the Galaxy Note 2′s improved hardware can cope with some of Samsung’s more ambitious software changes, or if it’ll go the way of the Note 10.1 tablet and hamstring itself, it’s still a more interesting handset.

Apple is again at the center of the technology universe: The group from the U.S. state of California invites you to a press conference in San Francisco, where all the world the idea of the next generation of iPhones expected.

The latest version of the popular smartphone will have a bigger screen and a faster Internet connection. End of the month could be the iPhone 5 will come according to estimates by industry experts in the trade.

The first batch is almost evaporated: Three days after the start of sales reports Apple already five million copies sold of the iPhone 5 New buyers must be prepared for long waits week.

One persistent rumor alleges that consumers can expect the screen size on the iPhone 5 to be about 30% larger than on previous models. Accompanying this rumor is the suggestion that the new phone will also be thinner. The technology used by Sharp, called in-cell, is reportedly a half a millimeter thinner than the technology utilized in current iPhone models. The Sharp technology also utilizes touch sensors, replacing the need for the inclusion of an LCD panel.

In the first three days of its launch, Apple has been able to sell more than five million copies of his new smartphone. As the company reported on Monday afternoon, the entire first batch is sold out. The demand for the iPhone 5 have exceeded expectations. According to Apple you have to deliver the most pre-orders, but many customers who have ordered one of the new phones would still hold out until October before they can hold the gadget in their hands.

We are happy to report that Samsung flagship phone, the Galaxy S3, is going to receive special treatment and it going to be made available in more colors soon. We are seen some leaked pictures depicting the Sapphire Black variant long before that, but we were not expecting it to be accompanied by a Titanium Grey and Amber Brown flavor as well.Samsung galaxy S3 now is available in red.

The Galaxy S3 in Garnet Red has been made available in the UK, and although this particular color is now officially not AT&T exclusive, it is still a rare breed in the UK. In other words, if you wish to purchase the Garnet Red Galaxy S3 in this region you’ll be able to do so only via Carphone Warehouse. This model is currently available in the U.S. exclusively through AT&T and features the same specifications as the blue and white versions including a 4.8-inch Super AMOLED display, Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, and 4G LTE connectivity.

Not really sure what the point of this exclusive Garnet Red trend is. It is a beautiful color but I doubt it is the most sought after. On the other hand, we wouldn’t want Sapphire Black to receive special exclusive treatment since this is probably one of the most desired flavors of them all. We seen it in action at the IFA event held in Berlin, we enjoyed it and we are definitely not the only ones who did. Not to mention that the showcased black S3 was also 4G LTE-enabled and ran on Jelly Bean.

In other Galaxy S3 news, the accessory company known as Mophie will be releasing an extended battery pack for the smartphone.
This battery pack will launch in four different colors including Red, White, Blue and Black, matching up to each variant of the Galaxy S3. The accessory is expected to extend battery life by over 100 percent, doubling the phone’s capabilities. It will also protect the back and sides of the smartphone from cracks and scratches.

Unfortunately the new pack will add on some extra bulk, making the Galaxy S3 less comfortable for holding, handling and carrying. There have not been any dimensions released for the pack, but given the size of the actual phone, it should add a lot of mass to it.

The Galaxy S3 will also be released in three new colors, according to announcement made by the Samsung.
